Silk Dupioni Dread Beads

Today I delivered new Dread Beads to Rastas Naturales. In addition to the papier-mâché beads I brought also these embroidered textile beads.

The basis is a recycled toilet paper roll covered with silk dupioni. On the outside I wrapped silk dupioni stripes soaked in wallpaper paste – based on an idea by Chriss Smith.

After letting the beads dry for about two days I embroidered them with vintage faceted czech glass beads. In the process I broke about five beading needles, because the fabric got really stiff. I have to find some special steel needles (for leather embroidery). However I don’t know where yet?
